Disclaimer: This guide is for Indian passport holders travelling to Malaysia as tourists. The information mentioned is up to date at the time of writing the post. I will try to keep it updated. Please refer the official website for specific queries.

Note that there are some websites like http://windowsmalaysia.com/ which claim to offer their services for Visa. However, they are not official government websites and I recommend you avoid them. There are some posts on TripAdvisor about people being duped by them. So PLEASE DO NOT USE THEM.

It costs Rs.6000 per applicant. Call them and check with them for the visa fee DD details (helpline no: 022 67866099). The DDs need to be made in certain banks only. Also, this Rs.6000 is divided into 3 parts: Rs.1000 Visa fee, Rs.4600 service fee to VFS and Rs.400 service tax on this Rs.4600. For each applicant, Rs.1000 component has to be paid as separate DD (so if you are 3 ppl, 3 DDs of Rs.1000 each). Rs.4600 can be paid together as DD (so if you are 3 ppl, one DD of Rs.13800 will do) and Rs.400 per application needs to be paid in cash.

Step 13: Make sure the documents are in order and details same as that mentioned in the eNTRI note. The responsibility of documents, in this case, lies completely on the traveller and having and eNTRI does not mean entry to Malaysia is guaranteed. It is subject to the person carrying proper documents. Note: Only 1 eNTRI application is allowed per account. You will have to create as many accounts (with separate email IDs as the number of applicants). This is true even for infants/ kids 😐

Edited 20th May 2017: Adding comments of a few users who applied for eNTRI/ eVISA with their experiences. It may not be possible for everyone to go through individual comments.

Comment by Raghav:

Dear All, Last week was the first time i visited Malaysia through Singapore from India. My Travel itenary : BOM-SIN-JHB-KUL-SIN-BOM Malaysia was my last minute plan to add in the travel. Have reached out to lot of people/agents/embassy to apply Visa for Malaysia. Everyone was aware of the Printed Visa and eVisa only – Printed Visa is charged around INE 6500 per person and takes minimum 4-5 working days. eVisa is INR 3500 per person and takes 24-48 working hours. Let me narrate the story before i go to the advantages and disadvantages of the various visas for malaysia including eNTRI. I had spoken to consulate people both in Mumbai and Chennai – they are not sure of eNTRI and asked us to apply for eVisas as am entering from Singapore on Road. The officer has told dont apply eNTRI as no one is sure and go for eVisa. We have applied eVisa for all 3 of us – me, my spouse and kid -> After 22 hrs in working day – my kid’s eVisa got approved and ours 2 got rejected. We were worried as the travel date was just 48 hrs and we need to know why it got rejected as the documents for us and kid are same. We tried reaching out to Mumbai consulate – they said that you need to reach out the online chat customer care from the website. We have reached to the chat customer care and they have said the reasons could be any but the consulate only knows the reason. The below is the chat transcript instructions. Here are some possible reasons your application was rejected: 1) Given/Middle name and Surname must be filled in exactly as per passport. If there is no surname, kindly leave it blank. (Note: Spaces in between names are taken into account as well); 2) New Passport number and also Old Passport number (if any, it’s stated in Last Page of your CURRENT passport. If none, kindly fill in the new passport number); 3) Photo of passport did not meet the standard requirements (i.e: Must either be in the form of e-Photo taken from studio OR scanned from the Original in color, clear with white background and HAS to be cropped & rotated in the upright orientation); 4) Passport Pages did not meet the standard requirements (i.e: Must be scanned from the Original in color, clear, and HAS to be cropped & rotated in the upright orientation) ; 5) A Valid Full Return ticket also known as Roundtrip Ticket from and to your Origin Country MUST be uploaded. Note that all air tickets have to be in color, genuine & not photoshopped or edited in any way. (i.e: India – Malaysia – India); 6) Hotel booking(s) & air ticket(s) must be valid/not passed the actual travel date; 7) Proof of address (i.e: AADHAAR Card, Society Letter, etc.) to be the same address as current resident address in their Country of Origin, if requested; 8) Latest Visited Country – Entry and Exit Stamp (i.e: Page must be scanned from the Original in color, clear, and HAS to be cropped & rotated in the upright orientation); and/or 9) Documents such as hotel bookings, identification card, birth certificates & any other documents requested must be clear, in color, and has to be cropped accordingly & rotated in the upright orientation; and/or9) Ensure all particulars in the form are keyed in correctly (i.e: date of issuance/expiry, passport number, date of birth, etc.) You may re-apply again a fresh application and when you re-apply, kindly bear these in mind. If all documents uploaded correctly and particulars filled in as per instructions and is deemed satisfactory by Immigration Officer, it won’t take more than 24 working hours for Immigration to process your application. We have reached to Mumbai consulate officer post this – and they had requested to write an email to mumbai@imi.gov.my and we have got a similar reply : Dear sir, We do not divulge our reason for rejection. Issuance of visa is under the discretion of the High Commission. You may reapply again should you wish to. However, kindly heed these guides; 1. Ensure all information is keyed in correctly as per details on passport 2. Ensure all uploaded documents (passport pages, proper full air tickets, hotel booking) are original 3. Ensure hotel booking are uploaded; hotel booking must be complete for whole duration of visit in Malaysia (ie; visiting for 5 days, booking must be for complete 5 days) 4. Ensure photos and all documents follow stated specification 5. It will be very helpful to attach a covering letter stating tourist plan and people accompanying on the trip We shall consider your application thoroughly. We got worried as all the documents already provided considers all these mentioned above but still couldn’t find the reason for rejection. So, we dared to proceed with our travel by taking an eNTRI instead of applying eVisa again due to the time limitations. eNTRI is instant and we have received as soon as we made the processing fee charges. We entered through the Second link from Singapore(Tuas checkpoint) and Sultan Abu bakar checkpoint(Malaysia) through a Taxi. The immigration officer verified all the documents and provided the entry permission in 15 minutes. While going to Singapore, i had checked with the Indian immigration officer as well – he was kind and helpful to go through these documents and has suggested that eNTRI is also a very valid entry document and he couldn’t spot much of difference of eNTRI and eVISA except the section/clause that you are allowed. If you are entering from India directly or through the mentioned countries – think if you have all the documents mentioned handy and if you have enough money/credit card/itenary and valid return ticket with all the stay/accommodation details – there is no reason for denial of entry unless any discrepancies. Am furnishing the entire story here so that it will be useful to thousands of users who are planning to visit Malaysia through the new Visa regulations. Thanks, Raghav

Comment by Kalyan (he is an Indian passport holder working in Srilanka on a resident visa. He wanted to visit Malaysia with his Srilankan office colleagues):

Writing this as it may help for anyone with similar situation. Yes I got clarity. If we’re travelling from Sri Lanka, we cannot apply eNTRI. I applied for an eVisa. If you’re travelling from Sri Lanka then the online application should be applied from Sri Lanka itself as the country drop down during registration populates based on the country you’re applying from. And we must specify the current local address as the address we’re staying in the country applying from(that’s what I got to know from online support). I had this country problem as I was an employee in Sri Lanka and was on a vacation in India, where I tried applying for this. So I had my friend in Sri Lanka do all the process for me. Now I’m back in Sri Lanka and we’re travelling on 10th May. And also, additional mandatory documentation is needed for an Indian applying from Sri Lanka. Along with return flight ticket, passport and accomodation, we need employment confirmation letter from the place we’re working, a visa request letter and 4 months bank statement. After applying, I have also been asked for Residence Visa copy of Sri Lanka in my passport and then the visa got approved. It took 3 working days in total.

Hope the post helps tourists travelling to Malaysia. Leave a comment if you have any queries. Or if you have applied and would like to share your experience with other travellers!

  1. Hi Priyanka,
Thanks for the wonderful Blog. I am going to apply for evisa single entry to Malaysia. I have a couple of questions.

    1. In January I am going to visit my friend’s family for 10 days. I will be staying with them. They will be providing a invitation letter/covering letter for the accommodation. Now the question is to whom the letter should be addressed.

    2. I have ticket booked from Madrid to KL and return from KL to India. I hope this is fine to proceed with.

Hope to get your suggestions before I could apply.

    Thanks.

    cheers,
    siva.

    1. Hello Dr.Siva,

Yes you can apply for eVISA. The covering letter could be addressed to “The Officer, Immigration Department, Malaysia”. It should include name of all the travellers, Date of travel, your sponsor’s name and local ID (if any), address in Malaysia, contact number in Malaysia along with the fact that they will take care of the your accommodation and financial responsibility while you are in the country.

      Hope this helps!
      Priyanka
PS: Is there any reason why you have posted your comment so many times? Were you facing any issue with the site? Enquiring so I can fix problems, if any. Thanks:)

      1. Dear Priyanka,
Thanks for your kind reply. Sorry for accidentally spamming the blog. Every time I posted a reply, the page went blank saying that “Server Timed Out”. That’s why I have posted multiple times, same message with slightly different manner.

        Thanks again.

        cheers,
        Siva.

          1. Good to hear that. Do carry all your documents including sponsor letter for immigration. Enjoy your trip ☺

      2. I believe i have to apply for 3 of us separately in 3 different accounts. Can i upload the same flight and hotel booking for all of us? 3. Can i add a common covering letter for all 3 of us with our details and itinerary? You do not need a covering letter if you have return flight ticket and hotel booking

      1. Thank you for the detailed answers.

I had a chat with the chat support in the official window malaysia web site. The below is what the chat rep said:

Don’t need to upload old/canceled passport
First page or first two pages of passport enough, last page not required
Upload birth certificate for children below 12 years
Regd. hotel confirmation issue discussed above, the person told to write a covering letter describing the situation and combine with the hotel confirmation pdf

One more question: I have scanned the passport as JPG file. The image has white space in the A4 page below the image. Can I crop the white space on all four sides before uploading? Thanks in advance.

        1. Hi Murali,

          • Don’t need to upload old/canceled passport: Yes that is right
          • First page or first two pages of passport enough, last page not required: Okay
          • Upload birth certificate for children below 12 years: Birth certificate is not a standard document with immigration authorities. I am not sure why the customer care asked for it because passport has birth details. We have never ever used birth certificate for our son. Nonetheless, no harm is being cautious.
          • Regd. hotel confirmation issue discussed above, the person told to write a covering letter describing the situation and combine with the hotel confirmation pdf: Again, we have always used the same pdf with one person’s name on it. Its standard and authorities know families won’t have all their names in the document. But go with what they suggested.
          • One more question: I have scanned the passport as JPG file. The image has white space in the A4 page below the image. Can I crop the white space on all four sides before uploading?: I suggest you create the account and then look at the sample image there. It will give you an idea of how the scan should look like.

          Hope this helps!
          Priyanka

  3. Hi,

My name is Zakir and I have received my Malaysia single entry employment pass visa which will get stamped once I reach Malaysia.

I would like to take my wife and kid along with me for 10 days, hence I’m planning to take them on eNTRI visa as I don’t have time to apply for eVisa or dependent visa. Would this be a feasible option.

Also regarding the stay, my company will book my stay and can I show the same accommodation which is booked under my name when I’m applying for the eNTRI visa.

Please let me know if there would be any challenges I might face. Just wanted to make sure the travel hassle free.

    Thanks,

    Zakir

    1. Hi Zakir,

I don’t think there will be any issue in either eNTRI or accommodation in your name. However, please call one of the Malaysian embassies to confirm since this yours is not a regular tourist visa. Their phone numbers are listed in the blog post itself.

      Thanks,
      Priyanka

      1. Thank you Priyanka for you quick response.

I called up Malaysia Embassy Chennai, immigration officer mentioned i can take my spouse and kid provided there return ticket is also booked.

        Thanks,
        Zakir

  4. Hi this is a very informative blog. My query is that we are traveling to Malaysia and Singapore next month in May 2019. Our itinerary is India > Kuala Lumpur > Langkawi > Singapore > India (layover at Kuala Lumpur for 4 hours). Does this layover come under ‘Transit’?  But our ticket is a single PNR from Singapore to India, so I suppose we wont be crossing immigration at Malaysia again. Are we still eligible for eNTRI visa or do we have to take eVisa?

    1. Hi Sushree,

I think you have some confusion about immigration and visa.
Are you going to stay in KUL/Langkawi? If yes, you will anyways be needing a visa. Since you are entering Malaysia only once (both KUL and Langkawi are international entry points for Malaysia); you are eligible for eNTRI. If your ticket from Langkawi to Singapore via KUL is on one PNR; your immigration will happen in Langkawi. If Langkawi to KUL is one PNR and KUL to Singapore is another; you will do immigration at KUL.

      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

  5. Hi,
I am planning to travel to Langkawi from New Delhi (New Delhi – KL- Langkawi). Is it permissible as per eNTRI terms and conditions? I am confused as while booking tickets link was saying I must be having a non stop flight.

    1. Hi Dr.Abhishek,

I was travelling so could not reply earlier. You can apply for eNTRI because you have a direct flight from India to Malaysia (KL). Your immigration will happen in KL itself.

      Hope this helps!
      Priyanka

  6. Hi Priyanka,

    Excellent blog.

    Need a quick info.

I along with family are planning a trip to Malaysia.

    Itinerary as follows:

    Bangalore – Chennai – Kualalampur – Siem Reap – Bangkok/Krabi – Bangalore.

I guess this does not qualify for eNTRI hence would need eVisa. Please confirm.

    1. You are right Abhinav. This does not qualify for eNTRI. You will need to apply for eVISA.

      -Priyanka

      1. Hi Priyanka,

Posting my question as a reply since there is some recaptcha error while posting regular comments.

You mentioned we need to share our itinerary with the immigration officer at the entry.

I have my return tickets booked from India to kuala lumpur, but I may be travelling to Langkawi . I haven’t planned my itinerary as I am visiting a relative there and will decide once I reach.

Will not having an itinerary be an issue? Also, do I need an invitation letter from my relative or a cover letter written by me would do?

I am departing on 9th september. Need help urgently.

        Thanks.

        1. Hi Rhea,

Travelling to Langkawi will not be an issue since its a domestic travel and your onward and return flights are already in place(assuming you have return tickets to and from KUL). You need not tell the immigration officer any tentative plans. Just let them know you are in KUL and returning on so and so dates.

Yes, its always advisable to have an invitation letter from your relative. We stayed with a friend the first time we travelled to Hong Kong. Though its rare, the immigration officer called to check with him about our plans and confirm our stay. It may not happen to you, but its better to be safe in situations like these.

          Hope it helps!
          Priyanka
PS: Thanks for pointing out the recaptcha issue, will look into it 🙂

  7. Hi Priyanka,
Two of my friends and I plan to visit Malaysia during may. It would be helpful if you could answer some of the queries i have.
Our itinerary includes Mumbai-> Hyderabad-> Kuala lumpur (stay for two nights) -> Bali (stay for three nights) -> Kuala lumpur (transit only, layover of only 2 hours, connecting flight) -> Hyderabad -> Mumbai

1- according to what I have learnt from different sources, since i dont have a direct flight to india while returning from Singapore/Thailand/Brunei, we are not eligible for single entry eVisa ( which im guessing is eNTRI). I can only apply for the Multi entry eVisa for 15 or 30 days. Am i correct?

2- the three of us are students, currently studying and living in Mumbai, but our permanent addresses, as on the passports, are not of Mumbai but of Jaipur and New Delhi. So is it possible we are going to face any issues in the visa due to that? If yes, then what further documents will we have to provide during the application?

3- Given the possible issues that can happen because of our addresses, would you recommend that we apply for the visa through a travel agent? or do it ourselves?

    Hope you reply soon.
    Thanks.

    1. Hi Sana,

eNTRI has been discontinued from April 2018 until further notice (I have put a note at the beginning of the post too!). You anyways would not have been eligible for it, given your itinerary. You can apply for eVISA all by yourself, no need of going through an agent. Your address on the passport is of no significance here.

      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

  8. Hi I’m an Indian , living in Lagos , Nigeria along with my wife and 2 kids. I’m planning to visit Malaysia (KL + Langkawi ) from 17th May to 27th May and then go back to Mumbai. I’ve done all my bookings , hotels and cruise liners and also created my account in official website of malaysian online visa. (https://www.windowmalaysia.my). although since my all the bookings are confirmed and paid, I’m highly concern of my visa rejection due to some minor issues like photo and all. how and who could assist me in handling this. please guide

    1. Hi Hiren,

I am sorry, I do not deal with travel agents etc. The process of applying for eVISA is very simple and has been explained in detail on my blog. If you are not sure you can do it yourself, you will have to try it through some travel agent.

      -Priyanka

  9. Hi ,
Me and my husband plan to visit Malaysia (langhawi ) on last week of May 2018 . During that time the visa waiver is not there so we should be going with e-visa right ? We are staying in Malaysia for 6-7 days only

    1. Hi Parvathy,

eNTRI has been extended starting 10th April. If you have not applied for visa yet, you can submit your application for eNTRI.

      Enjoy your trip:)
      Priyanka

  10. Hi,

I am travelling with my family to Malaysia on 23rd April 2018 and had couple doubts..

1- How much are the fees for EnTRI visa and eVisa?
2 – I wish to go to Singapore for a day out of my 7 days trip and come back to Malaysia by bus. What visa do i need?
3 – How much are the bus charges from Malaysia to Singapore?
4 – What visa do i need to travel for a day and come back next day for Singapore?
5 – What is the best way to get the white background photo as per their specification for a visa so that it is not rejected?

    Thanks and please revert back.

    Manan

    1. Hi Manan,

eNTRI was started in April 2017 and is effective for one year from 1 April 2017 to 31. March 2018. There is no update yet if you can apply for it after March 2018. However, since eNTRI is valid for 3 months from the date of approval, one can get eNTRI before 31st March and travel in April.

Applying for eNTRI is not feasible in your case though, because it is a Single Entry Visa. You cannot go to Singapore and then come back to Malaysia. You will have to apply for multiple entry eVISA. Regarding your other queries:

1- How much are the fees for EnTRI visa and eVisa? :Its mentioned in the blog post itself, please check https://www.coveringmiles.com/apply-malaysia-tourist-evisa-entri-online/.
2 – I wish to go to Singapore for a day out of my 7 days trip and come back to Malaysia by bus. What visa do i need? eVISA
3 – How much are the bus charges from Malaysia to Singapore? It depends on where in Malaysia you are travelling from. Check on http://www.easybook.com and other links on Google.
4 – What visa do i need to travel for a day and come back next day for Singapore? You need a proper SG visa. Check my post https://www.coveringmiles.com/how-to-apply-for-a-singapore-tourist-visa/ to know more about how to apply.
5 – What is the best way to get the white background photo as per their specification for a visa so that it is not rejected?: Most of the good photo studio guys are well aware of how to get Visa photos. If the photo meets requirements, Visa is not rejected based on it.

      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

      1. Can i apply for an Entri visa myself as I am scared for the documents to be uploaded correctly or no and the photo size and all or do i need to go to a visa agent?

Secondly… can i take Entri visa from here and then can i go to Malaysia and then apply for a singapore visa? is that possible?

        1. You can apply for visa yourself. The blog post describes step by step process of how to do it. Also, you cannot apply for Singapore visa from Malaysia. For every country you are visiting in your itinerary, you should have a valid visa before you leave India.

    2. Hi Manan,

eNTRI has been continued again starting 10th April. If you still haven’t taken Visa and you need a single entry visa, you can apply for eNTRI.

      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

  11. Hello Priyanka,

Could you tell me if window Malaysia is directly affiliated to the Malaysian government? As there are many websites through which one can apply for eVisa, I’m not sure which one is genuine.

  12. Hi,
We are family members planning to go from India to Malaysia, then to Thailand. Again from Thailand to Singapore, then back to India. Is the following details correct?
To Malaysia 5 days- eNTRI Visa Fees 20usd.
To Thailand 5 days – VOA fees 2200Bhats
To Singapore 3 days – Visa fees of SGD +additional service charge of Rs 300 as visa processing fee from Thomas Cook.

Also help me for a better itenary. Have we include curise trip in Malaysia?

    Regards,
    Raghu

    1. Hi Raghu,

Singapore visa is officially 30 SGD, and Thomas cook and other agents charge more than Rs.300 processing fee. Its in the range of Rs.1000 – Rs.1500 depending on where you are getting it from.

Rest of the details are correct.Let me know what help you need in planning.
      Thanks,
      Priyanka

  13. Hi Priyanka,

Thanks for your quick reply. I appreciate it. Should I apply for 15days eVisa or 30days eVisa. ( https://evisamalaysia.in/malaysia-evisa-for-indians/ )

I will be visiting for tourism purpose only. Ain’t the eVisa valid for 3months? So wouldn I be eligible for multiple visits within those 3months.

I usually stay there for 4days. Usually visiting Sepang Race Circuit & Batu Cave Temple.

    Best,

    Ashwin

    1. You can apply for a 15 days eVISA since your visits are only for 4-5 days. You can make as many trips as you want in the 3 months that your eVISA is valid, as long as the stay does not exceed 15 days.

      Enjoy your trips 🙂
      Priyanka

  14. Hi Priyanka,

Actually, HDFC Multi Currency Forex Card Supports MYR. Hope this information will be Useful.

I have used it many times.

    Best,

    Ashwin

  15. Hi Priyanka,

I am an Indian citizen residing in India, I have to visit Malaysia twice in a span of 20days, once in March and again in April. I will be entering from Hong Kong in March and entering from India directly in April.

So, I am confused about the which visa to apply for? Please help.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Ashwin

    1. Hi Ashwin,

As long as your first entry and last exit date are within 30 days of each other, you can apply for eVISA which is a multiple entry visa. However, this may change if this is not for tourism purposes. Please call one of the consulates (contact details in the blog) and confirm based on your purpose of travel.

      Thanks,
      Priyanka

  16. Hi Priyanka,

    Thanks for the reply,

But as you can see i am travelling from UAE – thailand – Malaysia – Singapore – thailand then returning back to UAE.

Moreover under the FAQ section they have clearly mentioned

    https://www.windowmalaysia.my/evisa/FAQ/PDF/FAQ/Support/FAQ_eNTRi_Indian_en.pdf

    Example:

The eligible travel routes/flights are as follows:
    *Country of stay/work -> Any country (Transit/Stay) -> Malaysia -> Any country
(Transit/Stay) -> Country of Origin or any other country.
Please refer to the below examples:
Depart Transit/Stay Arrival Transit/Stay Final Destination Remarks
    Australia N/A Malaysia N/A Australia ✔
Australia Bali Malaysia N/A Bali ✔
Australia N/A Malaysia Bali India ✔
Australia Bali Malaysia Singapore Australia ✔
    Australia Malaysia Singapore Malaysia India

    Kindly advise.

    Regards,

    1. Hi Pradeep,

Page no.9 of the same document states “Applicants residing outside India (Expatriate) must have a flight to Malaysia and return flight ticket from Malaysia to India or applied country.” If I were you, I would not take any chance with visa. Immigration authorities have every right to deny entry to their country without any justification.

      Regards,
      Priyanka

  17. Hi priyanka,
We ( me & my wife) are travelling to malaysia from UAE on eNTRI note.

I think we fulfill all the conditions to travel to Malaysia using eNTRI.

But when i asked a lady at embassy here , she said this is OK.

I don’t think occupation – houswife really matters for getting enTRI note. no where it was mentioned either.
both are having residence visa of UAE.

Kindly, guide me what to do.

    Thanks in advance

    1. Hi Pradeep,

NRIs can apply for eNTRI only if they hold valid work permit and resident visa for the country you are applying from. Also, there is a condition that states:

      • Applicants residing outside India (Expatriate) must have a flight to Malaysia and return flight ticket from Malaysia to India or applied country.

Since UAE is where you are applying from, you need to have flight to and from Malaysia either to India or UAE. You can see this condition mentioned in this document:

      https://www.windowmalaysia.my/evisa/FAQ/PDF/FAQ/About/eNTRI/eNTRI_Indian_Nationals_en.pdf?ver=1.2

I suggest you apply for eVISA.
      Regards,
      Priyanka

  18. Hi priyanka,
I am travelling to malaysia from india.
I am having a fresh passport and this will be the first time i will be applying for visa.i am having 2 visa credit cards with me. Can you tell me do i still need to upload my bank account statement along with visa application and if yes then how much balance should be their in my account for visa to be approved?

Also as i will be travelling to different places and stying in different hotels in malaysia so do i need to upload all the hotels booking invoice in my visa documents?

    1. Hi Anshul,
You do not need any bank statement to get eNTRI / eVISA. However, since this is your first international travel,do keep last 3 months bank statement with you when you travel. Immigration officers don’t usually ask for it; but sometimes they do for first time travellers. Also, you can upload your first hotel booking in your visa form and carry hard copy of rest of the reservations when travelling.
Hope you have checked the other blog posts that have tips for first time travellers.
      Have a good trip 🙂
      Priyanka

  19. Hi Priyanka,
I am traveling to Thailand on 28th Feb from Bangalore and I am transiting through Kuala Lumpur (Same PNR). The layover is 14 hours and wanted to enter the city of KL.
Can I use the eNTRI for this ?
    My itinerary:
    Bangalore > KL(Transit) >Phuket> Bangkok> Bangalore

    Thanks
    Akankhya

      1. Hi,
I did upload the cover letter but while filling up the form it is asking me to mention the address in Malaysia. What do I mention there?
Its with a * so cant skip

  20. Hi Priyanka,

    Thanks for detailed information.
I have a question regarding return country.
Though I am entering Malaysia directly from India but my return iternary is –

    Malaysia- Bali- Singapore- India

Will I be eligible for entri visa?

    1. Hi Rahul,

You will not be eligible for eNTRI because you are not exiting via Singapore, Brunei or Thailand. You will have to apply for eVISA.

      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

  21. Hi Priyanka,
we are travelling to philippines and during our return journey, planning to stay for a day in Kuala Lumpur. We are confused about which visa to apply for. Can you help us out.

    1. Hi Venkatesh,

Since you are entering KUL from Philippines, you will need to take an eVISA.

      Have a good trip 🙂

  22. Hello
Thanks Priyanka for this comprehensive information. I will be traveling to Singapore from Jaipur next month. On the return leg from Singapore,we have a stopover of 11 hours in Kuala Lumpur. I want to utilize these hours by doing some basic Kuala-lumpur sightseeing.
My question is,I want to apply for eNTRI as this will be a single entry visit to Malaysia and less fee as well.
    1. What about accommodation booking? As I will be there for hardly 7-8 hours,(that too at broad daylight) a hotel is not needed, what to upload in the form then? And how to convince the authorities at the Kuala-lumpur airport?I can upload a fully refundable booking.com booking but then what if the authorities at Kuala-lumpur ask for the same? I would have cancelled it by then.

    2. Should I upload the flight ticket for the return leg only or both the legs?.

    1. Hi Ajay,

You can upload a covering letter stating you do not need an accommodation. A sample covering letter would be like this:
      Covering Letter for Malaysian Visa.

If you are more than one person from the same family, you can change the names accordingly.

You can upload flight ticket for the return leg that specifies you are entering via Singapore and exiting to India.

      Hope this helps!
      Priyanka

  23. Hi

We, a group 5 people, are planning to visit Malaysia, a short stay , for around 5 days. My cousin brother is staying there and we are planning to stay with him . So, i have certain doubts regarding the visa process.

    1. We each should individually register and apply for E Visa ?
    2. We are taking a group ticket. Since return ticket needed to be uploaded, any problem uploading a group ticket, for each individual ?
    3. Also, the covering letter regarding the proof of accomodation will be the same for all of us.
    4. We should apply for E visa or ENtri ?

    Please advice.

    1. Hi Shibu,

      1. If you are applying for eVISA, you can do it with the same account. However, you need to register separate accounts if you are applying for eNTRI.
      2. There is no problem in uploading the same ticket for every individual.
      3. Yes, the covering letter will be same for all of you.
      4. If you are entering and exiting Malaysia directly from India or via Singapore, Thailand or Brunei, you can apply for an eNTRI. Otherwise you will have to apply for eVISA.

      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

  24. Hi I am working in Singapore on Employment pass and my dependents have Dependent pass. My family wants to travel from Indian to Malaysia and then back to Singapore. Which VISA type for Malaysia would be required?

    1. Hi Ehtesham,

Indians residing in Singapore are not eligible for eNTRI (Rule says: This Visa Waiver program is not allowed to applicants who are working at Singapore). You will have to apply for eVISA. However, for NRIs, its always a good idea to call consulate/ VFS before applying for any visa. Every country has different visa restrictions.

      Regards,
      Priyanka

  25. Hey Priyanka,

I have a query regarding eNTRI documents.

I am applying for my wife & her passport does not yet mention me as a spouse.
While flight booking mentions her name, all the Hotel bookings mentions only my name + 1 guest.

I am attaching Marriage Certificate as “Other Document” while applying for eNTRI.

Is anything else required to have a smooth transition at immigration counter after reaching KLIA.

Tried calling on +91 22 2645 5541 & +91 22 2645 5542 repeatedly for Visa help but no one is picking up since morning.

    Thanks,
    Viral

    1. Hi Viral,

This should be more than enough. My husband’s passport did not have my name when we went to Malaysia while mine had. In our case also, some bookings are in his name and some in mine. We never had any issue.

      Regards,
      Priyanka

      1. Thanks a lot Priyanka for the quick reply.

In our case, I have spouse’s name on my passport.
So I guess marriage certificate should do the work for wife and she can carry my passport copy at the immigration check just to be safe.

        Regards,
        Viral

      2. Thank you Priyanka for the quick reply.

You’ve been really helpful planning my trip to Malaysia.

Really appreciate your efforts in helping people on your blog.
I’ve been going through other posts as well which are also very informative !

        Keep it up !

        Regards,

  26. Thanks for your article mam,i have few questions in mind regarding Malaysia visit hope so you’ll clear it out.I’m Indian living in Dubai going from Dubai to Singapore (Return ticket) and SIN To KL, KL TO PENANG and KL TO Bangkok (staying less than a week in KL and Penang)

    1. I’m elegible for eNRTI?
    2. my sister lives in penang what other documents i can upload instead of hotel booking?
    3. if i’m staying 4 days (2 in KL and 2 In Penang do i have to upload both hotels reservation in case i’m not living with my sister?)

    Thanks in advance

    1. Hi Manmeet,

      1. You are eligible for eNTRI since you are entering via Singapore and exiting via Thailand. However, for expatriates, there are more documents required to be submitted than mentioned in this article (I wrote this specifically for Indian tourists travelling from India to Malaysia). Check the FAQs for eNTRI on https://www.windowmalaysia.my/evisa/faq.jsp.
      2. The site says: Applicant wishing to with Relatives, Kindly write a cover letter and specify the accommodation details and upload it.
      3. You will have to furnish details of the accommodation at your entry point (KL or Penang). However, you should carry hotel booking for the other accommodation too with you.

      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

  27. HI Priyanka,
Another issue,it is said that I have to upload two photos to the eNTRI form. How to upload two copies, one overlapping another? Please help me as I am living in a very small town with no help around.
    Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Indrani,

I understand this means you need to carry 2 copies of the photo that you upload and the photo requirement are mentioned. You can chat with the customer care online to clarify why the photo is not getting uploaded. Have you checked the specifications? I will mail you offline and you can send me the photo to look at.

      Regards,
      Priyanka

  28. Hi
I can not upload my photo in the eNTRI form neither the Editor option is working.
    Please help me.

  29. Hi Priyanka, First of all, Thanks much for the very detailed and informative article. I just applied for Malaysia eNTRI for myself and my wife. As long as you had all the required documents readily available, the entire process was done in 5 minutes!
However, I have a small query. After the payment was done, the link to print the version V3 of the eNTRI becomes available. There is also a pop-up message that shows ‘You are advised to print both the versions of the eNTRI….’. However, I could not locate the previous version V2 of the eNTRI (I guess that one is without the photograph) anywhere. Can you please advise how do I retrieve it? Thanks!

    1. Hi Seetha Raman,

It seems starting from May 1, 2017, e-NTRI note would be a single page pdf containing the photograph. Check the comments section for comment from S Vijay Kishore. He had similar query and called consulate to clarify.

      Hope this helps!
      Priyanka

      1. Hi Priyanka, Just another minor clarification – printing the eNTRI in Black & White in A4 sheet would be enough, right? I had previously travelled on eVisa to Malaysia, that time I just took a B&W print-out. However, this time as the photo also gets displayed in eNTRI, thought of confirming.

        1. Hi,

I am not sure about that. Why take chance with such small thing, better get a colour print-out.

          Thanks,
          Priyanka

  30. Hi,

I applied for eNtri visa but I did a mistake.. My plan is to fly from India to kuala lumpur were I will stay for 2 days then I will fly to langkawai were I will stay for 2 more day. Then I will fly back to kuala lumpur and then back to India.

I uploaded documents only from India to Kuala Lumpur for flight and hotel. I received my veNTRI and have taken a print out.
Will I be stopped for not submitting the langkawi flight ticket and accomodation documents?

    1. Hi Nitish,

Since KUL-LKG is a domestic fight, it should not matter for immigration. I suggest you carry all printouts and present to the immigration officer if asked for. You can always mention to that the flight and hotel fields allow only 1 document to be uploaded so you have uploaded the KUL one where you are staying first.

However, I am not an authority on immigration and it would be best if you call up the immigration officers once (in Mumbai/ Chennai or Delhi) and reconfirm once.

      Thanks!
      Priyanka

  31. Hi Priyanka,

    The post is very informative.

I am travelling to Singapore and Langkawi in June. I plan to stay in Singapore for 5 days and then travel to Langkawi and then back to India. I have successfully obtained eNTRI Note for travel to Langkawi. I have however two queries:

    1. My flight to Singapore is via KUL. As eNTRI is valid for only single entry, does that mean that the single entry will be counted even for the connecting flight and eNTRI will not be valid for travel to Langkawi.

    2. In the eNTRI Note my name and surname are appearing in reverse though i clearly remember entering the details correctly while applying got the eNTRI. Can the immigration officers deny entry for this reason?

    1. Hi Neha,

      1. Do you have 1 PNR or 2 PNRs for the flight from India to SIN via KUL? If you have 1 PNR, the ticket is called a fly-through ticket. It means you will get 2 boarding passes here in India itself and your bags will be checked in all the way to SIN in India itself. It also means you will not have to go through any immigration in KUL and do not need any eNTRI/eVISA for that leg. In that case, you can use your eNTRI when you return back to LKG.
If you have 2 PNRs for the flight from India to SIN, you will need to go through immigration, collect your checked-in bags at KUL and check-in again for SIN flight. This means you will need eNTRI/eVISA/stamped VISA. You cannot apply for another eNTRI till this one is valid. You can call the immigration officer once(either in Chennai/ Mumbai or Delhi) and ask him/her if you can apply for an eVISA for the entry when you return back to Malaysia from SIN. Someone I know was advised to do this.

      2. I do not think this should be any concern. However, check with immigration officer once when you call them. They are the right people to advise on specific matters like this.

      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

  32. I have a bom-kul(transit)-bali flight for a stay in Bali for 3 days and then a bali-kul flight for stay in kul for 3 days. Indian passport. I don’t think I can apply for the eNTRI visa right ?
Also, do we not need the passport to be sent to the consulate for stamping if applying for an evisa?

    1. Hi Akankhya,

Is your BOM-KUL-BALI flight ticket in one PNR? If yes, you do not need to go through immigration and do not need Malaysia visa for that leg. You will only need eVISA when you get back from Bali. You cannot apply for eNTRI since that requires you to enter/exit from Singapore/ Thailand or Brunei.

If your BOM-KUL-BALI ticket is in 2 different PNRs, you will need to take stamped multiple entry visa from VFS, which costs 6000 INR per person.

If you apply for eVISA, you do not need to send passport anywhere. But if you are applying for visa through VFS, you will need to give your passport to them. Malaysian Visa will then be stamped on one of the pages in your passport.

      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

  33. Hi,
Thanks a lot for your detailed Info..

We r travelling from Hyd – Kul – Sing – Kul – Hyd.

First 5 days we will spend at Singapore and last 2 days At Malaysia.

While going it would be a connecting flight from Kul – Singapore with a waiting time of only 4 hrs..

If I apply for ENtri then my return only will be considered as an entry. Isn’t ? Or I hv to apply for EVisa..

    Regards ans TIA

    Viji

    1. Hi Viji,

Do you have one PNR for HYD-KUL-SIN flight ticket? If yes, then its called a fly-through ticket and you do not need to go through immigration in KUL. If not, it does matter how long the wait is, you will need to go through immigration. Which means you will need a visa. And if that is the case, you will need a multiple entry visa which can be issued only by VFS.

If you have a fly-through ticket to SIN, you can apply for eNTRI which you can use when entering KUL 2nd time.

      Hope the clarification helps!
      Priyanka

  34. Hi Priyanka!

Thanks for sharing all the details above.

Here is a list of my queries please:

    1) I plan to travel in July-August…when should i apply for my visa?
    2) Which is equally valid eVisa or eNTRI if i intend to stay for about 12-14 days max
    3) Will carrying cash MYR be good enough?
    4) will be staying at a Cousins place….what all docs should I ask from him to support my application
    5) I will be flying from india to indonesia, then to Singapore & finally to Penang and back home….will entry from Singapore be sufficient to meet criteria of eNTRI?

    Thanks in advance

    1. Also, I visited the consulate to check criteria for eNTRI and was informed it is not a valid confirmation for entry to the country and is solely based upon the Immigration officers call. So is there a risk involved or it is just as easy?

    2. Hi Vidhi,

      Here are my responses:
      1. eNTRI pass is valid for 3 months from the date of issuance so can apply a month in advance to be on the safe side.
      2. eNTRI allows you to stay for 15 days at max and eVISA for 30 days. If you are staying for max 14 days, eNTRI should be good enough.
      3. What is this cash for? To prove that you have sufficient funds to stay in Malaysia for 14 days? Pls check the limit of cash one can carry into Malaysia, some countries have limit to the amount of cash tourists can carry.
      4. You will need to upload a cover letter from your cousin specifying his/her address (as per the site: Applicant wishing to with Relatives, Kindly write a cover letter and specify the accommodation details and upload it). Also, its always a good idea to carry your cousin’s Passport copy, any work permit etc issued by the Malaysian govt. along with the cover letter.
      5. You can take eNTRI as the Penang International airport is one of the valid entry points from Singapore.

As mentioned by the consulate, no one can guarantee entry into any country. Immigration has all the rights to deny entry. The responsibility of documents in case of Visa on Arrival or eVISA/eNTRI lies on the tourist(for any country). If you fail to produce the stipulated documents, they have all rights to deny you entry. That said, if you are carrying required documents, return ticket, confirmed accommodation proof and enough funds; these tourist friendly countries do not deny entry in general.

      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

      1. Hi Priyanka,

Re your answer to point 4 can you please tell where on the site can i look up for “Applicant wishing to stay with relatives/friends”? Also, while carrying the documents along with me, do you think I will need to have the original letter or a print out should suffice?

        1. Hi Vidhi,

This information is given in the eVISA form. You can try creating a new eVISA form and check the same. Attaching a screenshot of the same: Accommodation booking docs.

          Hope it helps!
          Priyanka

  35. Hello Priyanka,

Your blog posts are very informative !
Thanks for clarifying many doubts regarding eNTRI.

I have a similar doubt raised by Akhil above.

I have booked flight ticket from Mumbai to Kuala Lumpur & Kuala Lumpur to Mumbai.
I can avail eNTRI for this.

Since eNTRI is a Single Entry to Malaysia, if I choose to travel to Singapore / Indonesia during my stay at Malaysia, will I be allowed to re-enter Malaysia from Singapore / Indonesia ?

If No, what is the work around ?

My travel dates are in first week of June. I think it may be a little late to apply for Singapore visa too, but still taking chance.

What are your suggestions for an 8 day trip to Malaysia ?

    Thanks

    1. Hi Viral,

As you mentioned, eNTRI is a single entry pass so you cannot re-enter Malaysia if you visit Singapore/ Indonesia etc. You will have to apply for a multiple entry stamped visa through VFS which costs Rs.6000 per applicant. Singapore Visa takes 3-4 working days (depending on where you are, if you are in a non-metro, the agent may take longer) so its not late to apply; but Malaysia stamped visa takes 5-6 working days. Doing both in this trip may not be feasible for you. Malaysia itself can be covered in 8 days if you are willing to travel out of KUL. We spend 3 nights in Langkawi, 2 in KUL and travelled to Johar Bahru for Legoland on 1 day when we went 2 yrs back.
      You can explore these options:
      1. Genting Highland
      2. Penang, if you are into SCUBA and other water sports.
      3. There is also east Malaysia (Borneo); which is known for beautiful hikes and natural beauty.
      4. Legoland, if you have kids or are LEGO enthusiast yourself 🙂

Depending on what your interests are, you can do quite a few things in Malaysia itself.
      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

      1. Hey Priyanka,

        Thanks for the valuable information.

My trip is 8N/9D, which may be too much for only Malaysia.

        So I have 2 options :
        1) Apply for eNTRI for single entry to Malaysia & explore Malaysia as much as possible in 9 days
( Can you suggest itinerary excluding Legoland ? )
        2) Get multiple entry visa to Malaysia & Include Indonesia (Bali) which is Free Visa on Arrival.
( To save processing time of Singapore Visa after Malaysia visa takes 5-6 days )

Your suggestions will be really helpful.

        Thanks,
        Viral

        1. Hi Viral,

I suggest the 1st option. Both Malaysia and Bali have enough things to do for 8N/9D. We went to Bali for 6N/7D and Malaysia for 7N/8D and still could not cover many things (especially in Bali where we could do only West and South Bali).

What are your interests like? Do you want to have a relaxed beach holiday/SCUBA/Snorkelling or prefer things like hiking/ city tours etc? Depending on that, I can suggest a sample itinerary.

          Regards,
          Priyanka

          1. Hi Priyanka,

            Thanks for helping out !

We are young couple travelling to Malaysia for 8N/9D.
Arriving KLIA2 on 1st Day early morning.
Departure from KLIA2 on 9th Day at 7pm flight.
So I have 8 full days to explore & leave last day only to reach airport.

We would prefer Beaches, Scuba / Snorkelling, City Tours.

I am planning KL & Langkawi ( also Penang as you mentioned earlier ) for sure.
Not sure about Highlands like Genting, Cameron or East Malaysia ( Please suggest a good reason to visit )

            Thanks,
            Viral

            1. Hi Viral,

There is enough in Langkawi for 3 days, Penang for 2 days and KUL for 2 days. Legoland can be done in 1 day from KUL if you want to do the theme park. If you want to do both water park and theme park, you will need 2 days. Personally, I do not prefer Genting Highlands but many first time tourists like that.
Given your flight is at 8pm, you easily have 6-7hrs on that day too; which you can use to see some attractions in KUL.

East Malaysia is mostly for nature and hiking enthusiasts.

              Hope this helps!
              Priyanka

  36. Dear All,

Last week was the first time i visited Malaysia through Singapore from India.

    My Travel itenary : BOM-SIN-JHB-KUL-SIN-BOM

Malaysia was my last minute plan to add in the travel.

    Here are some possible reasons your application was rejected: 1) Given/Middle name and Surname must be filled in exactly as per passport. If there is no surname, kindly leave it blank. (Note: Spaces in between names are taken into account as well);
    2) New Passport number and also Old Passport number (if any, it’s stated in Last Page of your CURRENT passport. If none, kindly fill in the new passport number);
    3) Photo of passport did not meet the standard requirements (i.e: Must either be in the form of e-Photo taken from studio OR scanned from the Original in color, clear with white background and HAS to be cropped & rotated in the upright orientation);
    4) Passport Pages did not meet the standard requirements (i.e: Must be scanned from the Original in color, clear, and HAS to be cropped & rotated in the upright orientation) ;
    5) A Valid Full Return ticket also known as Roundtrip Ticket from and to your Origin Country MUST be uploaded. Note that all air tickets have to be in color, genuine & not photoshopped or edited in any way. (i.e: India – Malaysia – India);
    6) Hotel booking(s) & air ticket(s) must be valid/not passed the actual travel date;
    7) Proof of address (i.e: AADHAAR Card, Society Letter, etc.) to be the same address as current resident address in their Country of Origin, if requested;
    8) Latest Visited Country – Entry and Exit Stamp (i.e: Page must be scanned from the Original in color, clear, and HAS to be cropped & rotated in the upright orientation); and/or
    9) Documents such as hotel bookings, identification card, birth certificates & any other documents requested must be clear, in color, and has to be cropped accordingly & rotated in the upright orientation; and/or9) Ensure all particulars in the form are keyed in correctly (i.e: date of issuance/expiry, passport number, date of birth, etc.)
You may re-apply again a fresh application and when you re-apply, kindly bear these in mind. If all documents uploaded correctly and particulars filled in as per instructions and is deemed satisfactory by Immigration Officer, it won’t take more than 24 working hours for Immigration to process your application.

We have reached to Mumbai consulate officer post this – and they had requested to write an email to mumbai@imi.gov.my

and we have got a similar reply :

    Dear sir,

We do not divulge our reason for rejection. Issuance of visa is under the discretion of the High Commission.

You may reapply again should you wish to.

    However, kindly heed these guides;

    1. Ensure all information is keyed in correctly as per details on passport
    2. Ensure all uploaded documents (passport pages, proper full air tickets, hotel booking) are original
    3. Ensure hotel booking are uploaded; hotel booking must be complete for whole duration of visit in Malaysia (ie; visiting for 5 days, booking must be for complete 5 days)
    4. Ensure photos and all documents follow stated specification
    5. It will be very helpful to attach a covering letter stating tourist plan and people accompanying on the trip

We shall consider your application thoroughly.

    Thanks,
    Raghav

    1. Thanks for the detailed comment Raghav. I am going to put this in the blog. Hope you had a fantastic trip to Singapore and Malaysia 🙂

  37. Hi
I’m Amit Kumar Saha from Kolkata & planned on a trip to Singapore & Malaysia with my family. We have planned to visit Malaysia on June 4, 2017. I want to know, if I’m entitled to eNTRI, as originally, first of all, we shall be touring Singapore from May 31 to June 4, and then will be travelling to Langkawi on June 4, 2017 evening. We shall further take LGK-KUL flight on June 7 & our return flight to Kolkata from Kuala Lumpur is on June 8, 2017.

What’s been annoying me, is the terms of entry (in eNTRI) into Malaysia, which inter alia includes “transit via Singapore” but does not mention “transit period” which in our case would be 5 days in Singapore.

Thanking you in advance regarding you advice,

    Amit Kumar Saha
    Kolkata

    1. Hi Amit,

It does not matter if you stay in Singapore for few days or are in Singapore only for a transit. As long as you have a valid Singapore visa and are entering Malaysia through one of the valid entry ports, you can apply for eNTRI. Since Langkawi is a valid entry point from Singapore, you can confidently apply for eNTRI.

      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

      1. Thank you once again, Priyanka, for clearing this vital doubt.

I do have another question, though. As in my case, I would be visiting Langkawi & Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia & hence bookings for accommodation have been made at both the places, whose details, we are also required to upload for the proper grant of eNTRI pass, “What would be filled at the ‘Address in Malaysia’ field” i.e., which of the hotel’s addresses would be used to fill in the “Address in Malaysia” section in the online eNTRI application form ?

Another thing, for minor childs, though we are required to make use of separate e-mail ids for application, does the applicant has to be one of the parents whose “Applicant Photo” would be uploaded whereas the “Passport Photo” would relate to that being of the minor child? Or that, both the applicant photo & passport photo would belong to the minor child.

        Again, thanking you in advance,

        With Regards
        Amit

        1. Hi Amit,

Since you are visiting Langkawi first, you can write that as the address. Also, your kid’s application for eNTRI should have everything related to him/her and not parents (unless specifically written in the application). Passport photo should be the scanned copy of first page of the passport.

          Hope this helps!
          Priyanka

  38. Hi,
My sister is travelling along with her daughter to Malaysia in the Month of May. She tried to create an account(windows.maalysia) for her daughter aged 5 years with the same mail id of hers as “Only one eNTRI account is valid against each individual account”. But when proceeded with the registration, the message popped out saying “Email id already exists”. Kindly advise how to proceed further. Also do provide any contact details for the malaysian consulate.

    Thanks
    S Vijay Kishore

    1. Hi Vijay,

Is your sister already registered on windows.malaysia? If the email id already exists, try doing “Forgot password” to retrieve the same. She will have to create 2 accounts, one for herself and one for her daughter (on 2 different email IDs). This does sound stupid because kids are not expected to have email IDs all by themselves, but unfortunately eNTRI needs a separate a/c.

      1. Hi Priyanka,
Thanks for your prompt response. My sister has registered for eNTRI yesterday. After the registration, it generated only v3(pdf)containing eNTRI note (having photograph). But when I did registration for myself, it generated v3(pdf) containing eNTRI note and another pdf containing the same information without photograph.
I want to know whether v3 containing eNTRI note sufficient. If not, kindly provide your advise as it says in mail “You are kindly advised to print both versions of the eNTRI Note to minimize queries at your local immigration authorities when existing your country.”

        Regards
        S Vijay Kishore

        1. Hi Vijay,

I recommend you speak to one of the immigration officers at the consulate. They would be the right people to clarify.

          Thanks,
          Priyanka

          1. Hi Priyanka,
It seems starting from May 1, 2017 e-NTRI note would be a single page pdf containing photograph. Thanks for the response

  39. Thanks for this valuable article. I am planning to visit Malaysia for one week. I believe carrying forex card would be nice idea. But I am unable to find any forex card available in Malaysian Ringgit currency. Please advise what should i do?

    1. Hi Mohsin,

Unfortunately no travel card/ forex card supports MYR. However, having a forex card is still preferable(over normal credit card, travel card from the bank or getting INR exchanged) because you get currency loaded on Google rate and not bank rate (bank rates are usually 2.5%+ higher than rates you see online). You anyways will have to pay the conversion rate from that currency to MYR for whichever card you use, so better to use forex card. You can use this criteria to choose which currency to get loaded:

      • If you plan to go to any of the countries of which currency is available in near future, get that currency loaded. So you do not have to pay extra in getting currency conversion for the leftover currency in the card
      • If you are not sure of the above, get a strong currency like USD, EUR, SGD etc loaded so you get better rates when you convert to MYR

Hope I made sense and helped 🙂
      Priyanka

  40. Hi Priyanka,

    Very useful article…

I have been working in Malaysia for one year with Employment pass. Now I am planning to bring my family from India to Malaysia for one month. While applying for e-Visa through online, I saw the option to upload the accommodation details. What document should I upload If I am not booking any hotel and accommodating my family in my Apartment?.

    Thanks
    -Rahul

    1. Hi Rahul,

Both eNTRI and eVISA grant maximum stay of 15 days. If you plan to take family for a month, you will have to apply for stamped VISA through VFS. I recommend you talk to immigration official at the embassy or atleast VFS helpline before you apply for a visa.

      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

      1. Hi Priyanka,

But in your article it is mentioned like below !!

“If you plan to stay for more than 15 days but less than 30 days, you will need to apply for a electronic Visa.”..

Can I apply for eVisa if planning to stay for 25 days?

        1. I am so sorry, totally my mistake. Yes eVISA is valid for 30 days at max. But I am not sure about the accommodation document, because it is a mandatory field. Site says you must ensure the following documents are valid prior to apply for an eVISA :
          1. Recent passport sized studio photo
          2. Passport front page.
          3. Confirmed Return flight booking
          4. Birth certificate for minor applicants
          5. Other documentation depending on applicant’s country

When applying through VFS also, hotel booking is not required. You should call the embassy and check once.

Hope it helps. Sorry for the earlier goof-up.
          Priyanka

        2. Hi Rahul,
This is what is written in the application form for accommodation:

Kindly scan and upload the Original Accommodation Booking in full color.
Photocopy scan and upload Accommodation Booking is not permitted and might be subjected to possible rejection.
Applicant wishing to with Relatives, Kindly write a cover letter and specify the accommodation details and upload it.

Hope this answers your query ?
          Priyanka

  41. Hi Prianka,

We are planned to visit Malaysia during 26May to 2nd June, I have certain queries can I request your clarification on it.

    1) I dont have Surname as of now I am using my given name in the place of Surname will it be good in case of Malaysia visa application.

    2) I have booked two separate flight bookings one from BLR to KUL and KUL to LGK reaching KUL at 6:30AM and next one depart KUL at 9:50AM, is this 3:20 minutes enough for eNTRI visa process. ( we are visiting only Malaysia in this trip BLR-KUL KUL-BLR)

    3) When I need to apply eNTRI for my travel date 26th May.

    Regards
    Basavaraju.M

    1. Hi Basavaraju,

      1. I do not have a surname in Passport too, I usually use LNU (Last Name Unknown) in Visa forms and elsewhere where surname is mandatory. I did the same with Malaysia visa also. Where have you used Given Name as the surname? I know someone else who does the same and haven’t faced any problems yet,so should be fine.
      2. Ideally 3hrs 20min is good time to clear immigration, collect bags and get into 2nd domestic flight in KUL. KUL immigration is quite fast. You can still see if you can get one of the front seats so you can get out early. Also, fill up the immigration form in the flight itself(or when standing in immigration line) and rush to immigration to avoid long queue. If you can manage only with hand bags, nothing like it 🙂
      3. eNTRI process is still not streamlined and applicants are facing issues after making payments sometimes. Since eNTRI is valid for 3 months from date of issuance, you can apply anytime now to avoid any last min hitches. In case of any issues, you can always sort it out with the consulate in the next few days.

      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

  42. Hi,
On getting a entri note what are preconditions that we need to satisfy for getting entry to Malaysia.
How much cash should I carry while entering malaysia? Or are credit cards accepted for getting an entry to malaysia?

I have heard that to get an entry to malaysia with entri note one must carry 500$ cash in hand.
    Please suggest.

    1. Hi Prasad,

Following are the prerequisites for applying for eNTRI:
      • Passport with validity of at least 6 months
      • Latest passport size photo
      • Confirmed return flight tickets
      • Proof of accommodation
Also, you need to enter Malaysia either through a direct flight from India or via Singapore/ Thailand/ Brunei (list of valid entry points mentioned in the blog).

There is no such rule that you need to carry 500 USD in hand when entering Malaysia. However, it is a good practice to carry your last 3 months back statement to prove you have enough money to sponsor your stay in Malaysia. The immigration officers can ask you to prove how you are going to survive your stay. Carry your hotel bookings, attraction booking tickets etc if you have already made all bookings. Let them know whats your plan for cash. We usually carry a forex card/ travel card when we travel abroad. You can take them from banks like ICICI, Axis, HDFC etc or from companies like buyforex.com. Using that is much cheaper than using your international India credit card (have that for contingency).

If you can manage to get Malaysian Ringgit before you travel, its good to have some MYR. Otherwise withdraw/ exchange as soon as you reach Malaysia.

      Hope it helps!

  43. Hi Priyanka,

I am visiting malaysia for 7 days from delhi. Do I need to apply for eVisa or eNTRI? Please suggest as my flight is directly from new delhi to kualalampur and kualalampur to new delhi

    thanks,
    Manish

    1. Hi Manish,

Ideally you should be taking eNTRI. However, the process of eNTRI is still not streamlined and you can see in the comments that eNTRI is not getting generated after making the payment and/or immigration officers not replying to mails. If you have time in hand, you can wait and apply for eNTRI a week or ten days before travelling. Otherwise, go for an eVISA.

      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

    1. Hi Suraj,

I just went to the link you posted and there are only 2 countries listed in the drop-down: India and China. Are you sure you are on the right link? I even tried afresh from the homepage and landed on the same link. Maybe try on an incognito window.

      Thanks,
      Priyanka

      1. Priyanka, I was connected over the VPN to our European VPN server. Hence, the issue! Oops! It’s working now; I am able to see India in the drop-down. Thanks!

  44. Hi Priyanka,

Thanks a lot for publishing this article. It is very useful for travelers. If similar info provided in embassy site, that would have been more helpful.

The query here is -> By Land from Singapore to JB, Malaysia – there are 2 entry points. Is the Second link Tuas in JB from Singapore to Malaysia is part of the eNTRI. Pl suggest.

    Second Link from singapore:
Tuas Second Link or Lebuhraya Laluan Kedua Malaysia-Singapura

Because this one is nearest to reach Lego land.

    1. Hi Raghav,

Both the entry points are covered by eNTRI. As per the FAQ section on the website, entry points are:
      By land from Singapore-

      • Sultan Iskandar Building Immigration Checkpoint, Johor
      • Sultan Abu Bakar Checkpoint, Johor

The second link on Malaysia side is called Sultan Abu Bakar checkpoint, while the one on Singapore side is called Tuas Checkpoint. Check this wikipedia link for clarification: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysia%E2%80%93Singapore_Second_Link

      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

      1. Thanks Priyanka!

We have successfully entered the Abu Bakar checkpoint last week with the help of eVisa and eNTRI as family got partial eVisa.

I will provide my experience in a detailed comment below.

The information provided in the Consulate website is all true – so need not be doubtful and take all the documents required to enter the country.

        Regards,
        Raghav

  45. Priyanka, in a latest twist, one of my friend was planning to visit Singapore for 4 days after his 5 day visit to Malaysia, but the Immigration asked him to apply for eVISA instead and not eNTRI 🙁 Here is what he told me on tripadvisor:

“I just called Malaysian consulate, Chennai and the receptionist put me to the Immigration team. The person very clearly explained me not to opt for eNTRI if I am not returning directly back to India. He explained that eNTRI is meant only for India to Malaysia and back to India as your overall itenary. He advised me to go for eVisa. I have decided to go for eVisa.

    regards”

    1. Yes Mr.A Shenoy ..that was me….However when I once again called the immigration team, they said its fine to stay 4-5 days in Singapore and come back to India. So got two versions from the Immigration team of Malaysian consulate in Chennai and hence more confused now….which one to opt..

Priyanka..do u have any means to get authentic information from the Malaysian Consulate…

      K Ramesh Kumar

      1. No Ramesh. I am a traveller just like you. Its very strange the immigration officer is not aware of the rules himself. The rules clearly indicate you only need to exit Malaysia via Singapore. It should not matter to Malaysian immigration if you stay in Singapore or exit it immediately.
I will suggest you mail the immigration officer to get a written reply from him clarifying you can apply for eNTRI. ALso, take a print of the FAQs section before applying for eNTRI. Before you travel, check on the website if anything has changed w.r.t to the rule.

        1. Looks like there are still lot of glitches and confusion among the immigration officers about the eVISA and eNTRI..as it appears from the TripAdvisor thread on this. Hope it gets sorted out soon. When are you travelling?

Unfortunately there is a huge difference in fee between eNTRI and stamped Visa otherwise it would have been easier to just apply for a stamped one through VFS.

          1. I did not want to take a chance and hence applied for eVisa..and have got the same approved for me and my family..

            1. Totally agree ..I would have done the same if they had not replied. Quite unbelievable the way they are handling the situation 😐

  46. Thank you Priyanka,

I believe infant and child both need eNTRI., can we apply for entire family using 1 account, or each individual need different account if so for infant and child, can we apply using parent’s account ??

    1. Yes, both infant and child will need separate eNTRI. My earlier reply was incorrect. You will need to create separate account for all of them. For eVisa, you can use one a/c to create multiple applications.

      1. Srikanth, to add to what Priyanka has said, eNTRI is definitely required for infant as well, but as the age is less than 11, the online payment is not required and it is free (only for infant). For above 11 years, the USD 20 fees is compolsary. However in all cases, eNTRI IS required. 🙂

        1. Abhishek – Where did you read about kids below 11 yrs not requiring to pay Visa fee? Pls point us to the link. My 4 yr son got a normal visa like us when we travelled in 2014. Srikanth – Passport and Visa are must for everyone. If there is any exemption for infants, it should reflect automatically when you proceed to the payments page.

          Hope it helps!

  47. Hi Priyanka, very helpful info, thanks for the article. My doubt is., for NTRI flight itinenary as in return flight itinenary or on ward itinenary. Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Srikanth,

For eNTRI, you have to enter Malaysia either on a direct flight from India or from Singapore/ Thailand or Brunei via one of the checkpoints written in the blog. Same is the case when departing Malaysia. It does not matter if you are going to stay in Singapore/ Thailand/ Brunei. So the ticket could be onward journey ticket too. As long as you have tickets for these places to show in immigration; it will not matter.

      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

  48. Hi Priyanka,

I know this would be little early to say, but one of my friends applied for the eNTRI today, payment was successful but the eNTRI was note generated even after 2 hours of successul payment. Only explanation would be, maybe only if its working day, the payment reaches their account and they can instantly issue it.. as today was Good Friday holiday and Malaysian holiday.

    1. Hi Abhishek,

Did you friend finally get the eNTRI? Many thanks for letting me know so other readers know and I can keep the blog up-to-date.

      Regards,
      Priyanka

      1. No, not yet. Apparently, she has done the online payment, money got deducted from her account, but since it’s holidays in Malaysia till tomorrow, probably it did not get credited to their account due to the weekend. Maybe she should wait till tomorrow.

    1. eNTRI is instant visa so the day should not matter. However, apply on a weekday to be on the safer side, the validity is anyways 3 months from the date of issuance.

      Regards,
      Priyanka

      1. Hi Riya,

As pointed by Abhishek in another comment, eNTRI did not get generated instantly for his friend who applied on 14th April(Ramnavami holiday). The visa site says it will reopen on 17th April and we will have to wait and see when her Visa is approved. So keep some margin and apply in advance.

        Hope it helps!
        Priyanka

  49. Thank you Priyanka for this very informative post. I was applying for eNTRI visa for Malaysia and have a doubt in one of the sections. In the `ADDRESS IN MALAYSIA` section can I give my Hotel address?

    1. Hi Tushar,

Yes, Address in Malaysia is the address of the hotel where you would be staying.

      Regards,
      Priyanka

  50. Hello Priyanka, very informative post. However, I have a query on the Steps 10 and 11 you have mentioned:

As far as I know, the eNTRI does not require any approval, so we can print it out just after successful payment, this is what I have been getting to know on tripadvisor :)) Only the eVISA has the processing time, as rightly mentioned in the table in this article.

    1. Hi Abhishek,

You are right. eNTRI gets approved instantly. There is nothing written about this on the Malaysia Visa website and the process being new, I wasn’t sure if its instant approval or not when I wrote the post 🙂 Will modify the steps. Thanks for pointing it out.

      Regards,
      Priyanka

  51. HI Priyanka, I am travelling to Malaysia in June, after a few days stay in Malyasia I am flying to Bali and then have a return from Bali to India via KL. Can I apply for eNTRI or should I go for e Visa or Multiple entry one.

    1. Hi Akhil,

Both eNTRI and eVISA are single entry visas. There are 2 scenarios:

      Case 1:
You have a return ticket from Bali to India via KL in one single PNR. This is called fly-through ticket when you have a single ticket from Bali to India with a stop-over at KL. In this case, you do not need visa again when you re-enter KL. If this is the case, you can go for eVISA (since eNTRI requires return ticket via Singapore/ Thailand/ Brunei).

      Case 2:
You have 2 different tickets – one from Bali to KL and then from KL to India (even if its the same day). In that case, you will have to go for a multiple entry visa through VFS.

They have recently increased the stamped visa fee through VFS to Rs.6000 per person. Call them and check with them for the visa fee DD details (helpline no: 022 67866099, details available on http://www.vfsglobal.com/malaysia/india). The DDs need to be made in certain banks only. Also, this Rs.6000 is divided into 3 parts: Rs.1000 Visa fee, Rs.4600 service fee to VFS and Rs.400 service tax on this Rs.4600. For each applicant, Rs.1000 component has to be paid as separate DD (so if you are 2 ppl, 2 DDs of Rs.1000 each). Rs.4600 can be paid together as DD (so if you are 2 ppl, one DD of Rs.9200 will do) and Rs.400 per application needs to be paid in cash.

      Hope this helps!
      Priyanka

      1. Thanks a lot Priyanka, Case 1 fits my travel details. Does eNTRI have a return ticket restriction, I could not find it on the https://www.windowmalaysia.my/evisa/evisa.jsp site. please confirm. I can see there is a restriction for eNTRI for Chinese nationals. There is however an entry restriction which should be from a direct flight from India or via Singapore, Thailand, Brunei. Please confirm. Thanks much for the detailed help.

        1. Hi Akhil,

Replied to your previous comment. Hope that clarifies. Check the last line of the question “From which country am I required to depart in order for me to enter Malaysia by eNTRI?” under eNTRI for Indian nationals.

          Regards,
          Priyanka

  52. The information is very useful. My family and I are planning a 2 day trip to Legoland in Malaysia during our Singapore holidays. We want to avail eNTRI. We are coming from India and return back. We however have Singapore Re-entry Permit (PR card). We used to reside in Singapore 2 years back, but have shifted since then. kindly advice. Thanks

  53. hey what is the procedure for multi entry visa for malaysia. recently i read that malaysia has annouced multi entry visa for indians and that can be used for travelling to ASEAN countries can you please inform me about that?

    1. Hi Nikunj,
Multiple entry visa needs to be applied through VFS only, which has been handling Visa applications for Malaysia. Their website is http://www.vfsglobal.com/malaysia/india/. The procedure is same as single entry stamped visa. You only need to mention you dates clearly in the covering letter stating you need a multiple entry visa.
I am not aware of any news about single visa for ASEAN countries.
      Hope it helps!
      Priyanka

  54. I understand that an indian national can travel from Singapore to Malaysia on eNTRI pass. I am asking this question because someone on Trip advisor forum has written that he had a live chat while going through process of eNTRI, he was advised to apply for evisa as he was flying from Delhi to Singapore, staying there for few days and then flying to Kualalumpur. Is this correct? Can you please advise and clarify. Thanks

    1. Hi Suresh,

Malaysia Visa site clearly mentions “Applicants must enter Malaysia by a direct Flight from India to Malaysia or may enter Malaysia via Singapore, Thailand and Brunei (air and land options mentioned). Applicant also must have a return flight ticket to India, Singapore, Thailand or Brunei.” As long as one holds valid Indian passport, valid Singapore visa and return tickets; he/she should be be eligible for eNTRI.

      Thanks!

  55. Hi Priyanka, I’m an Indian passport holder working in Srilanka on a resident visa. I want to visit Malaysia with my Srilankan office colleagues. Looks like through eNTRI, I can’t travel from Srilanka, is it so? We’re planning to stay for 6 days, so even though my stay is less than 15 days, I should apply for an eVisa rather than eNTRI and travel from Srilanka, is that the solution? Please let me know.

    1. Hi Kalyan,

With eNTRI, you need to go either on a direct flight from India or can enter via air or land from Singapore/ Thailand/ Brunei. So yes, you cannot go from Srilanka. You can apply for an eVisa. The fee for Indian nationals applying for eVisa from Srilanka is USD 25 + LKR 1682. Check for more details on the eVISA Section at https://www.windowmalaysia.my/evisa/faq.jsp.

There is also a live chat to help you. I am not an authority on Malaysia Visa so request you to contact the embassy for finer details. If you have clarity, do post it here so other readers can use the knowledge.

      Thanks!
      Priyanka

      1. Hi Priyanka, thanks for the help.

  56. eNTRI i got instant after payment.. there is no waiting.. 2 kind of pdf show up to download after payment.. one carrying photograph and one not.. I did not upload hotel booking as there was no * (red) sign on it so i guess it was not compulsory to upload hotel booking.. however, there was column below asking where staying in malaysia which was compulsory.. so i filled hotel address where most probably i would be staying..

  57. Nicely written with screen shots….good article…One clarification i have is i understand that after eNTRI registration ..almost instantly the approval comes….while in eVisa it takes 24 hrs. So does it mean there is no scrutiny of the documents that we submit by anyone? Its unlikely that without looking at the Return Tickets, Hotel accommodation, Passport validity etc we wil get the approved eNTRI pass right? Then how does the approval happen instantly?

    1. Having an eVisa/ eNTRI does not mean the person cannot be denied entry in Malaysia. If the information on travel documents do not match that on eNTRI, a person can be denied entry into the country. You can edit information in the form before you make the payment. If you realise after making the payment that some information is wrong, you need to reapply.

It is very much like Visa on Arrival (with a difference that you need to get it before travelling) where tourists have the responsibility of carrying all the required documents with them to get an entry.

  58. I’m a regular reader of your blogs and must say they are very informative and provide useful tips for travellers!!!
